NTG reveals CompuMe expansion plans

CompuMe has set its sights on aggressive expansion in Saudi Arabia. The focused IT retailer’s operation in Saudi Arabia is now operated by NTG. The group plans to open a series of new CompuMe stores during 2006 as it looks to capitalise on strong consumer demand for technology products in the Kingdom.

CompuMe has set its sights on aggressive expansion in Saudi Arabia. The focused IT retailer’s operation in Saudi Arabia is now operated by NTG. The group plans to open a series of new CompuMe stores during 2006 as it looks to capitalise on strong consumer demand for technology products in the Kingdom. “Promoting CompuMe in Saudi Arabia is a real focus for us,” said Bassam S. Abu Baker, group general manager at NTG. “Now that the franchise agreement is in place and we control the Saudi operations of CompuMe, there are big plans to extend the chain of retail outlets. At present we have three stores — in Jeddah, Riyadh and Khobar. We hope to have increased the number of outlets to 12 by the start of 2007.” NTG’s distribution arm AIM plans to work closely with its reseller partners during the course of this year's Gitex Saudi Arabia with a series of special product promotions in place to help boost sales. With new distribution agreements in the pipeline, AIM is determined to position itself as a premier in-country distributor in the Kingdom. AIM already represents a number of major vendors including Microsoft, Fujitsu Siemens, Creative, Toshiba and anti-virus vendor NOD32. “AIM is focusing on extending its product portfolio and moving further into value-add distribution,” continued Abu Baker. “We hope to sign another major A-brand hardware vendor soon and we are also working on finalising a new distribution agreement with a major networking vendor for the Saudi Arabian market.” More than 350 resellers now have active credit lines with AIM in Saudi Arabia. The company operates a main stocking point in Riyadh and also has sales and service operations in Jeddah, Damman and Khobar. NTG also operates an Easy Finance programme that allows the company to provide extended credit facilities to resellers working on large account projects in the market. “The Saudi market is expanding and demand is high,” added Abu Baker. “In the consumer space, sales of notebooks and digital devices such as MP3 players are soaring. However, the resellers that we need to work with for the value distribution business are totally different to those we work with in the volume space. You can't just sell networking kit without providing both service and installation support.” “As we move towards a wider product portfolio, we will also be increasing the levels of value that we deliver to resellers,” said Abu Baker.
