PDA and smartphone vendor i-mate has announced a new push e-mail upgrade for all its Windows Mobile 5.0 devices, which is available via its ‘Club i-mate’ website at www.clubimate.com. The upgrade – called 'Messaging & Security Feature Pack' (MSFP) - is tied to Microsoft’s Exchange 2003 Service Pack 2 and, according to i-mate, delivers the same experience as other push e-mail systems but without the expense of an additional relay server and extra client licences. In terms of specific product models, the upgrade is available for the SP5, SP5m, K-JAM, JASJAR and the latest i-mate JAMin. “The increasing requirement for 24/7 availability and a faster response time to customer demands is compelling companies to look for cost-effective ways in which their workforce can access data whilst on-the-go,” commented i-mate’s CEO Jim Morrison. “This new feature pack for Windows Mobile 5.0 increases efficiency while providing peace of mind for IT managers through an easy upgrade to the existing business IT infrastructure.” Microsoft’s Direct Push Technology allows business users to access their email on-the- go through real-time synchronization between devices and Microsoft Office Outlook. In other words, the service provides the user with a familiar e-mail environment, through which they can access not only new e-mails (pushed directly to the user’s device as soon as they reach the server), but also their calendar, contacts and tasks. Users of the i-mate devices listed above should head to www.clubimate.com to grab the upgrade. Newly manufactured i-mate devices meanwhile are now shipping with the pack already pre-installed.
