Global construction giant Bouygues has further strengthened its position in the Middle East with the award of a US $120 million (AED32.7 million) contract to build a viaduct to carry one part of Dubai’s light rail transit (LRT) system. The Paris-based contractor’s VSL unit, which specialises in the construction of bridges, has already started precasting and erecting 13,000 segments using eight launching girders on the Red Line after it was awarded the deal last week. The work, being carried out in a joint venture with French counterpart Freyssinet International and Italian-based Rizzani de Eccher, will result in two separate lines. The contract also includes an option to build a viaduct on a second LRT line, the Green Line, which could be worth another $24 million to Bouygues.
