Four housing deals awarded on Mesaieed project in Qatar

QREIC hands out US $227 million worth of packages to three contractors in an effort to boost facilities at MIC

Qatar Real Estate Investment Company (QREIC) has awarded four contracts worth a total of US $227 million (QR826 million) for construction of the first phase of the Mesaieed Housing Project, located in Mesaieed Industrial City (MIC) in Qatar. A total of 1,244 housing units are to be built as part of the first phase of the project. Al Sraiya Trading and Contracting Company picked up two construction packages, with Al Jaber Trading and Contracting and Al Attiyah Contracting and Trading Company picking up a deal each. Maunsell Consultancy Services was awarded the contract for project management and post contract supervision consultancy services for all four packages. QREIC said that the master plan and architectural design had been developed to include leisure and civic amenities with considerable landscaping, in order to increase the value of the development. Asmat Ali, manager of projects department at QREIC, said that the building expansion plan is a landmark project, slated for completion by the second half of 2007. MIC is situated about 40km south of the capital, Doha. It was established in 1996 as a single point authority to directly provide all services and facilities to industries in the Mesaieed area. The MIC management undertakes the responsibility for developing light, medium and support industries to serve the needs of large businesses. It contains a varied base of industries, covering crude oil, hydrocarbon products, petrochemicals, iron and steel, as well as light and support industries and Mesaieed Port, which serves export and import needs of the region.
