Saudi Arabia’s Kingdom Holding Company, chaired by HRH Prince Alwaleed bin Talal bin Abdulaziz Alsaud, launched a new Islamic channel dubbed Al Resalah (The Message) last month. The channel aims to provide a platform for the true message of Islam and its teachings. Al Resalah is an arena for candid dialogue on a range of religious, social and economic issues that affect everyday life. “We are offering the world an Islamic Arabic language channel to present true Islam,” says Prince Alwaleed. The channel claims to be the first 24-hour moderate religious satellite channel of its kind to target Arab audiences worldwide with a more exciting variety of programmes including dramas, songs, game shows and educational programmes within an Islamic context. It targets the new generation of young open minded Arabs and seeks to counteract the negative misconceptions of Islam in other societies. The channel caters to all family members especially young people to stimulate family bonds and encourage open dialogue. Speaking about the channel, Dr. Tareq Alsuwaidan, currently the channel’s general manager and the main contributor to the planning and establishment of Al Resalah, says: “I was delighted with HRH Prince Alwaleed’s idea to plan and launch such a unique channel. This channel represents pure and moderate Islam and our Arab heritage through a modern medium.”
