Toshiba’s Computer Systems Division has added the first dual-core notebooks to its B2B family with the announcement of its new Tecra A7, Tecra M5 and Portégé M400 units. These machines draw their computing power from Intel’s first ‘Core Duo’ processor chip, which offers two CPU cores rather than one, and all feature Toshiba’s EasyGuard technology. “These new products offer today’s business user a full portfolio of choice. Each model was innovatively designed with a particular functionality in mind in order to suite different business requirements,” said Ahmed Khalil, general manager of Toshiba’s Computer Systems Division in the Middle East and Africa.” Designed as a mobile desktop replacement for professional users, Toshiba’s new Tecra A7 offers a 15.4” wide-screen display ATI’s Mobility Radeon graphics chipset. It also supports up to 4GB of DDR2 533MHz Dual Channel memory and a Serial ATA hard disk interface. The Tecra M5 meanwhile is a thin and light machine that Toshiba claims effortlessly balances system performance, durability, security and stability for mobile professionals. It touts a vendor-quoted batter life of six hours, a 14.1” display and nVidia’s GeForce Go7300 graphics chipset. Last but not least, the tablet PC Portégé M400 packs in a Toshiba TruBrite 12.1” high brightness display, Serial ATA hard disk drive, support for up to 4GB of DDR2 RAM and an ultra SlimBay that can house either a DVD Super Multi Drive or a second hard drive configured for RAID 1. All three new notebooks will hit the UAE market next month. LG Electronics was the first company in this region to unveil dual-core notebooks based on Intel's Core Duo technology, when it announced its P1 Express Dual and M1 Express Dual a the end of January.
