WD sharpens African channel

Western Digital (WD) has been ramping up its reseller ties in North Africa, as the hard drive sector heats up and Seagate’s impending acquisition of Maxtor looms closer.

Western Digital (WD) has been ramping up its reseller ties in North Africa, as the hard drive sector heats up and Seagate’s impending acquisition of Maxtor looms closer. WD’s reseller seminars in Casablanca in Morocco and Algiers, the capital of Algeria become of prime importance in building up a solid channel to compete against the combined force of Seagate and Maxtor. The events focused on educating resellers about WD’s portfolio, and worked on drawing up roadmaps for these local markets. The seminars come hot on the heels of similar events in Al Khobar in Saudi Arabia and Alexandria in Egypt. “Resellers are an extremely important component of WD’s customer outreach, and helping them develop an excellent understanding of WD as a company and its product range is crucial to our success in these markets,” said Hafeez Khawaja, senior regional director, Middle East, Africa and South Asia at WD. “The seminars enabled resellers to understand the features and benefits of the WD range and learn about the new WD products. It also allowed WD to better appreciate reseller needs, and work out strategies to effectively address them. We will be organising more reseller seminars in the future, in various Middle East cities,” added Khawaja. WD has recently announced it will expand its distribution channel in the MENA region, focusing on the markets of Morocco, Algeria and Tunisia. The company also plans to extend its SelectWD channel loyalty programme to these markets and provide localised RMA support through its local distributors.
