Jumbo chief reveals expansion plans

UAE consumer electronics retailer Jumbo Electronics has revealed key regional expansion plans following a stellar financial performance in 2005.

UAE consumer electronics retailer Jumbo Electronics has revealed key regional expansion plans following a stellar financial performance in 2005. “It [was] a fantastic 2005 for us overall,” said Arvind Nair, chief operating officer of Jumbo Electronics. “We have consolidated as a group, our figures look very strong and we are poised on the threshold of rapid local and regional growth. “Currently, most of the regional markets are robust with high growth forecast, increase in per capita income and expected spurt in tourism. In line with the market expectations, Jumbo has decided to strengthen its presence in the coming months and expand into future growth markets including Oman, Bahrain, Kuwait and few African markets like Sudan.” Nair said Jumbo had achieved significant sales growth in a variety of product categories including cameras, flat panel displays, MP3 players and laptops. He also confirmed that Sony remained the retailer’s biggest selling brand followed closely by HP, Nokia and Sony-Ericcson. The Jumbo chief revealed that the company planned to expand its corporate social responsibility (CSR)-related activities, via the formation of a committee that would channel funding from various departments into local and international charities, such as the Al Noor Training Centre for Children with Special Needs. Nair added that Jumbo also planned to expand its Emiritisation programme in conjunction with the UAE government. “Our objective is to strategically create effective opportunities aimed at developing the talents of our national workforce," he said. "The purpose is to equip UAE nationals with the knowledge and skills needed to function within a changing economy. We realize the need for in-depth training.”
