The organisers of the DEPA Middle East Hotel Awards have announced the addition of a new category for this year’s line up. The new award will be given to the owner or developer of the best mixed-use development including a four- or five-star hotel component. Judges will evaluate the level of synergy between the key business activities and assess the impact of the design within the local environment, as well as the overall economic effect of the initiative. “The Awards have acted as a catalyst for the growth and development of the hotel industry by providing recognition for the leading hotels and by providing inspiration to the industry,” said Mohannad Sweid, chief executive officer, DEPA. This is the fifth year of the award ceremony, which is to be held on the May 3 in Dubai. More than 200 four- and five-star hotels from across the region are expected to be nominated for awards in 15 categories, including best new hotel and best hotel design project, with a special award presented to the Middle East hotel of the year.
