Austrian contractor, Bau Holding Strabag, has won the main construction package for the US $81 million (AED300 million) DEC Towers in Dubai Marina. The joint venture between India’s Dheeraj Group and the UAE’s East Coast Group has been earmarked for completion in 2007. Piling work on the development, which was won by Swissboring, began last week. The project, which is Dheeraj & East Coast’s first in Dubai, consists of a 25 and 21-storey residential tower, and a three-storey commercial building. Asteco Development Management has been appointed as project manager, and AEIB as consultant. The MEP contractors for the project are Menasco Mechanical Contracting in joint venture with Thailand’s largest MEP contractor, Powerline Engineering Public Company. “The shoring and excavation on the site is now complete and piling work has already begun, putting the development of the project on schedule,” said Dheeraj Wadhawan, director of Dheeraj & East Coast. “We have carefully chosen our partners, keeping in mind our commitment to develop DEC Towers as a world-class development with cutting-edge amenities and comforts.” The facilities of DEC Towers include an Olympic-size swimming pool, health club, tennis court, squash court, outdoor jogging tracks and retail space for shops and restaurants. “DEC Towers is a significant strategic expansion for us to tap the potential of the freehold residential and commercial property market of the region, and our joint venture with East Coast Group has blended expertise with local market knowledge, a combination which will enable us to further our investment strategy for Dubai and the region,” added Dheeraj. Strabag is also chasing an estimated $300 million contract to build Keo Tower, an 88-storey development also in Dubai Marina, along with a $268 million deal for the construction of a 4.1 km runway at Abu Dhabi International Airport.
