Distree events, organisers of channel networking event the Digital Consumer Channel (DCC), scheduled for May this year, has announced an expansion in the geographic remit of exhibitors and attendees at this years show, and highlighted the improvements it hopes to put in place for this years event. DCC, held in Fujeirah in the UAE from 15th to the 18th of May, will now include companies from Pakistan, selected African nations such as South Africa and Nigeria and the countries of the CIS. These nations join those of the 15 from the Middle East and Africa that attended last year’s event. “We see the market working towards this way – fFor example in the CIS - the vendors are starting to serve these countries from Dubai, and it makes better sense for product coming from Asia to go through Dubai rather than to Russia and then back into the CIS,” said Farouk Hemraj, CEO at Distree events. With only 50 exhibitors spaces available for vendors at DCC, Hemraj is expecting a sold out event, offering invitees the very cream of the crop from the region’s consumer technology vendors. Hemraj also says the DCC event’s award ceremony will feature a new format and new awards for 2006. “We have new awards for products – the product innovation and the product design awards — vendors can submit for this before the event. We will then evaluate the product and it will be on show at DCC. The vendor will get one minute to sell the product to the audience at the Gala dinner on the last night. The voting will be done by push button, so it is a live electronic vote,” said Hemraj. “We will use the same sort of spot for distribution innovation awards – exhibitors will have a small time slot to explain their ideas to the attendees and then they will vote on it,” he added. The DCC event will also see input from the recently formed Distributors Association, developed in conjunction with Distree, although as this group is in its nascent stages, its role is still to be decided.
