Siemens Communications has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Etisalat to support the UAE operator in its continuing international expansion strategy. Under the agreement, Etisalat will consider Siemens Communications to be one of its preferred suppliers for the entire scope of communication technologies. In the middle of last year Etisalat International signed a MoU with Chinese vendor Huawei Technologies that would see Huawei assist the operator in identifying, evaluating and funding its entries into new markets. The MoU stipulates that Huawei alert Etisalat International to any opportunity that presents itself in the region, in terms of new licensing, partnerships or other opportunities. “Etisalat’s continued rapid growth overseas can be attributed to the company’s respected brand, ability to understand customer needs and delivery of the right technology solutions to meet these needs,” says Soenke Peters, VP Siemens Communications Mobile Networks Middle East. “A committed expansion strategy is essential to meeting these needs as today, Middle East businesses and consumers expect the very latest technology and are no longer content to follow behind developments in Europe, the USA and Japan.
