Top resellers race for glory

Tech Data held the grand finale faceoff for its racing resellers in the distributor’s ‘grand prix’ sales promotion earlier this month.

Tech Data held the grand finale faceoff for its racing resellers in the distributor’s ‘grand prix’ sales promotion earlier this month. The races were the culmination of Tech Data’s end of financial year promotion, which began in December with a ‘qualifying lap’ and continued through January with weekly ‘laps’ where resellers were awarded ranks and points, with winners receiving rewards including notebooks and travel vouchers. “Tech Data has consistently developed and launched campaigns that have delivered results,” said Mohammad Meraj Hoda, regional manager Middle East and Africa at Linksys. “They have managed to do so with a fresh approach every time. Their periodic marketing efforts have resulted not just in recurrent sales spurts but also go a long way to injecting much required verve in the regional channel.” Ten top resellers took each other on to win over half a kilogram of gold, which Tech Data valued at over US$10,000. Top spot went to reseller Micropoint, winning 300g of gold. Datasat Computer Technology and Fire Bird Information Technology came in a close second and third. They were presented with prizes by Hanspeter Eiselt, vice president at Techdata Europe Middle East and Africa. “The competition is quite fierce between the distributors, the resellers all work in different areas so it’s not so much between us. There are so many distributors offering similar portfolios today that schemes like this really help to get the channel buying, and shows us commitment,” said Feroz Akhtar at Micropoint Middle East. “I gave the gold over to my boss. He’s going to have something nice made for his wife with it,” he added. Tech Data also used the grand prix to incentivise its own sales team, splitting them up and setting targets linked to the vendors in the promotion, leading to increased sales during the promotional period.
