US Robotics held its first annual partner event in Cyprus for distributors and resellers from across the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) during January 2006. Top performing partners received awards at a special evening ceremony in recognition of their sales achievements. Senior executives from US Robotics attended the event, including Peter Blampied, director sales and operations at US Robotics EMEA, Tony Field, product marketing manager at US Robotics EMEA, and Sumit Kumar, regional manager at US Robotics MENA. The event is expected to become an annual event for US Robotics in the region. “The continued success of US Robotics products across all markets is largely due to the efforts of our dedicated channel partners whose performance has been commendable this past year,” said Blampied. “This annual partner event is an acknowledgement of the commitment and achievements of our valued partner network and we are certain that this event will help in taking our partnerships to greater heights.” During the event, US Robotics executives also took the opportunity to talk MENA partners through the vendor’s channel strategy for 2006 and update them on the product roadmap. During 2005, US Robotics was acquired by private equity fund, Platinum Equity. Further acquisitions by Platinum in the networking space look highly likely during 2006 as it looks to further develop US Robotics business. Almasa landed the best regional distributor of 2005 award with Saudi Arabia’s Advanced Integrated Media (AIM) picking up the best country distributor award. It was a triple whammy of prizes for UAE-based Quality Computers, which went home happy with awards for best regional reseller, best UAE retailer and best analogue reseller. UAE-based Emax claimed the best retail outlet award while Saudi Arabia’s Jamal Al Jassim picked up reseller of the year for 2005. Fast-growing Dubai-based outfit New Trend Computers won the best non-analogue reseller award. The award for best platinum partner of the year went to Kuwait’s E-Tech Systems. In the individual awards categories, Almasa’s Vijendra Singh went home happy with the prize for best regional product manager. AIM’s Reda Al Hussiney picked up the best product manager award and Almasa’s Abbas Ather bagged the best regional salesperson prize. US Robotics’ regional partner family took the opportunity to celebrate a successful 2005 at the Cyprus event, complementing the training and prize giving ceremony with sightseeing, volleyball tournaments and sampling the cultural delights and nightlife of nearby Limassol.
