UAE-based plant company Al Wasit Machinery, plans to establish one of the region’s first construction equipment assembly plants. The plant will be located within Dubai Industrial City and will manufacture a range of heavy machinery and parts used in construction as well as the quarrying and earthmoving sectors. The company has not yet revealed how the new home-grown machines will be branded. Up until now, the company has acted as a dealer of mainly Japanese-manufactured construction equipment. “A better and more cost-effective alternative is to source components from countries like Japan, Brazil, the United States, South Korea and China, to assemble them in Dubai for use locally and for re-export to other markets,” said Abdul Qader Ahmed Mohammed, founder and chief executive of Al Wasit Machinery. Mohammed plans instead to manufacture customised products that will perform better in local climatic conditions. He said: “Al Wasit Machinery has made this strategic move to respond to the needs of its customers who want to have the right product, at the right time, in the right place and at the right price. “Easy availability of base metals, along with a skilled regional and international work force and flexible financing schemes, make Dubai an attractive base for the transport equipment industry,” added Mohammed.
