Sonicwall has extended its range of VPN appliances with the launch of its new SSL VPN 200 device for small networks. Designed specifically for firms employing less than 50 users, the SSL-VPN 200 has been launched following Sonicwall’s own 2005 survey, which found that over 80% of the 1000 IT administrators believed existing SSL VPN access solutions to be too expensive for small and mid-sized companies. The new SSL VPN 200 allows remote mobile users to connect to their company’s network from any location and any computer using just a web browser, thus enabling secure access to resources such as e-mail, files, intranets and applications. For more powerful capabilities such as secure access to corporate servers or more complex applications, the product transparently pushes a downloadable thin client (NetExtender) onto the user’s desktop or laptop. “With the growth of the mobile workforce, SMBs are increasingly focused on securing communications from outside the firewall without adding to IT support headaches,” said Shahnawaz Sheikh, Sonicwall’s regional sales manager for the Middle East and Africa (MEA). “Our SSL VPN product line resonates with SMBs because it exemplifies our strategy of taking complex, expensive technologies and creating a cost-effective implementation that every business can afford.,” he added. Unlike solutions that charge a per-tunnel licensing fee, Sonicwall’s SSL VPN appliances are not restrictions to that the number of concurrent user tunnels, meaning firms can effectively scale their remote access connectivity as they grow. The SSL-VPN 200 is recommended for networks that use a maximum of ten concurrent tunnels in normal circumstances, or five in very heavy usage situations. SonicWALL’s SSL-VPN 200 appliance is available for US $595. More details are available from www.sonicwall.com.
