Al-Futtaim Technologies, the IT solutions arm of the Al-Futtaim group boosted its sales 41% year-on-year during 2005, doubling its sales of Toshiba notebooks in the process. Besides Toshiba, Al-Futtaim Technologies also sells Alcatel and Microsoft Business Solutions products in the region. However, Al-Futtaim Technologies failed to disclose its actual revenue figure for 2005, making the true scale of this 41% sales spike impossible to assess. During 2006, Channel Middle East remains committed to flagging up claims based on percentage growth that do not also provide absolute figures as part of our campaign for greater financial transparency in the region. By doubling its sales of Toshiba notebooks, Al-Futtaim Technologies comfortably exceeded the regional growth rate for notebook sales of 58% that IDC estimated for 2005. Other products that helped to drive Al-Futtaim Technologies growth included Toshiba’s multifunction copiers and multimedia projectors. Al-Futtaim Technologies also posted record sales of Alcatel enterprise communication systems driven by deals with major customers such as ADMA/OPCO, GEMS educational institutes, ADIA, ADCB and Higher Colleges of Technology. R. Muralidharan, general manager at Al-Futtaim Technologies, said: “The year 2005 was a challenging one for Al-Futtaim Technologies as it introduced to the UAE market revolutionary products and cutting edge solutions. These included Toshiba’s Libretto U100, UAE’s first mini-notebook; Toshiba’s feature-rich TDP-P8 portable projector and a range of E-studio copiers equipped with latest e-bridge technology. Through its exclusive tie-up with Alcatel and Microsoft’s CRM solutions, Al-Futtaim Technologies continued to offer sophisticated communication systems.” “Technology is set to witness great momentum in 2006 with new trends transforming the electronics market,” Muralidharan added. “Consumer demand is moving towards complete solutions, multi-function gadgets, while portables are fast gaining favour with buyers. Above all, the growth of Al-Futtaim Technologies will continue to be driven by its relationship with global partners and its customer base. Its strategy of targeting new markets with the right price-value equation will further strengthen its position as one of the leading technology solutions provider in UAE.” During 2005, Al-Futtaim Technologies also signed an exclusive agreement with fleet management solutions vendor MobiApps. The company also expanded its ability to sell, deploy and maintain Alcatel enterprise solutions in Pakistan during 2005, setting up a wholly owned in-country subsidiary.
