Top bosses at major IT distributors in the Middle East and Africa (MEA) will soon have the opportunity to join an exclusive channel community. Conference organisers Distree Events plan to launch the MEA presidents club at their upcoming MEA distribution conference later this month. “The purpose of the club is to bring together the best minds in distribution to discuss issues and topics of mutual interest that can ultimately lead to efficiency in the way products and services are brought to market throughout the IT distribution channel in MEA,” explained Farouk Hemraj, CEO at Distree Events. To qualify for membership of the exclusive club, CEOs and presidents will only be admitted if their company has a track record of ten years in business. They must also have minimum annual sales of US$200m or distribute products of at least five A-brand vendors. The club is intended to serve as a think tank dedicated to defining and promoting a healthy and successful distribution channel for the IT industry. The first group of members will be limited to fifteen companies. Potential candidates have already been identified by the club’s committee, which already includes both Ali Baghdadi and Guy Witcroft of Aptec and Tarsus respectively. “We have a commitment to promoting best business practices and to add value to the top executives who have been attending and supporting our events over the past years,” continued Hemraj. “As the initiator of the club, we will support all the related cost, including membership fee, of the club for the first year of operations.” Michael Kaak, former VP Europe at Ingram Micro has been offered an honorary membership of the club. Following an inaugural ceremony on the opening night of Distree MEA on January 22nd 2006, the first meeting of the club will take place the following day to determine the club’s charter, frequency of meetings and topics of discussion.
