Mövenpick Hotels & Resorts has signed a management contract with Viltur Insaat Ve Turizm for the takeover of a business hotel in Izmir, Turkey. The five-star hotel will reopen under its new livery in mid-2006 following extensive renovations. It will be the second hotel to be run by the Swiss international hotel chain in Turkey after the Mövenpick Hotel Istanbul, which has been under Mövenpick management since 2003. “Mövenpick Hotels & Resorts are renowned for their culinary expertise, high standards of product and service quality, combined with a certain Swiss touch and staff trained to the highest level,” said Nail Oezkardes, president of Viltur Insaat Ve Turizm. “So we’re convinced we’ve found the right partner.” The Mövenpick Hotel Izmir is located in the town centre and is 30 minutes from Izmir Adnan Menderes Airport. The property will offer 184 rooms and suites when opened. “One of our expansion objective is to gain a foothold in other Turkish destinations, and we’re delighted that, as of mid-2006, we’ll be able to offer our guests genuine Swiss hospitality in Izmir, too,” said Stefan Flury, senior vice president, Europe, Mövenpick Hotels & Resorts. According to Alain Gozzer, public relations manager for Mövenpick Hotels & Resorts, the chain is already looking at other hotel opportunities in southern Turkey. “Based on the success we have had with the Mövenpick Hotel Istanbul, it was always an expansion goal to gain a foothold in the southern part of Turkey. Izmir is a perfect opportunity and we will probably sign other management contracts in this part of the world soon,” Gozzer told Hotelier Middle East. “There is a huge potential in this country for professional international hotel chains like Mövenpick Hotels & Resorts.”
