The first round of judging for the Campaign Awards took place in Dubai last week. It followed a massive response to the awards, with more than 600 entries coming in from across the region. The number of entries for what is the first year of the awards was far higher than anticipated, so Campaign arranged last week’s extra round of judging in order to create a shortlist for each category. Under the chairmanship of Unilever Middle East boss Jan Zijderveld, more than 20 judges from advertising, media and PR agencies gathered at the Fairmont Hotel in Dubai to debate the entries. The biggest category was print, which saw around 200 entries. This was closely followed by the television and integrated categories. The shortlists will be revealed in the Campaign Annual, which will be published next week. The final round of judging — which will be carried out by a panel of international and regional experts — takes place on 16 January, with the awards being held at the Madinat Ballroom, Dubai, on 31 January.
