Cleaning up set for Qatar

Firm from Japan is awarded Qatar's latest sewage teatment plant deal

Japanese conglomerate Marubeni has won a US $250 million (QR910 million) contract to expand a sewage treatment plant in Qatar. The firm won the prize contract in joint venture with France’s Degremont. Under the deal Marubeni will handle the construction work while Degremont will be responsible for the mechanical and electrical work. The pair will also operate and maintain the facility after completion in March 2008. The contract was awarded by Qatar’s Public Works Authority (Ashgal) and the aim is to increase processing capacity to 135 000 m3 from 62 100 m3. The existing plant is located in the west of the Doha and was built in 1985. It currently serves half of the 235 000 population of the city.
