Almasa Holdings — the conglomerate behind Almasa IT Distribution — has established a dedicated real estate operation, which will be knows as Omniyat Property. The IT expertise that exists within Almasa Holdings will be put to good use, with Omniyat promising to deliver high-tech properties with futuristic features including voice control of household systems and even robot pets. Omniyat Properties, which is launching with an issued initial capital of US$41m and an authorised capital of US$82m, will be the sixth company within Almasa Holdings. The group currently includes Almasa IT Distribution, Almasa Business Solutions, Performance Systems, The Hiring Solutions Company and ART International. Omniyat will focus on developing high-tech commercial and residential buildings and properties in Dubai and the rest of the region. Almasa Holdings’ property division has already completed numerous successful real estate investments in the UK and Iran during the last few years. “We started out as an IT distribution company but as we grew and our turnover reached hundreds of millions of Dirhams, we decided to invest in another sector to spread the risk,” said Mehdi Amjad, president and CEO at Almasa Holdings. “We decided to go into real estate as we saw it as offering a safe investment and a good counterbalance to the fast-moving IT world.” “We have been looking at the Dubai property market very carefully over the last 18 months as we were looking at further developing our real estate business and spinning off this in-house division into a fully-fledged property development company with its own structure and management team,” Amjad added. Omniyat management claim that the company’s homes and offices will include futuristic features such as voice control as well as robots that will take care of daily chores such as vacuum cleaning mopping and even pressing shirts. The possibility of robotic pets for Omniyat’s residential developments has also been mentioned. Almasa Holdings employs more than 250 people and covers more than 60 countries. One of the largest IT distributors in the region, Almasa IT Distribution works with a bevy of major vendors including HP, Maxtor, Avaya and Hitachi.
