Nasa Multiplex has won a US $272 million (AED1 billion) contract to design and build an 86-storey tower at Dubai International Financial Centre. Union Properties is the developer behind the super-tall structure, which will have 25 levels of office space and 520 apartments spread over 50 floors. And it is the latest in a string of high-rise developments to have been won by the firm in Dubai. Spokesman Mark Wilson said: “The project, to be known as the Index, will be delivered on a guaranteed maximum price contract.” The contractor completed a two stage negotiation process to win the job — its third from Union Properties. It has already completed The Tower and Creekside Apartments for the developer. The Foster and Partners-designed building will be one of the tallest mixed use towers to be developed in Dubai. Union Properties has engaged edara-APP, a joint venture between edara, a Dubai-based project management group, and Australian project management outfit APP, to handle the project management of the tower through the design and construction phase. Woods Bagot and structural engineers Bruechle, Gilchrist and Evans have also been appointed on the project team. Nasa Multiplex has been appointed as main contractor on some of the tallest buildings in Dubai and also led construction on The Gate — the signature building of Dubai International Financial Centre. The contractor’s order book includes 15 residential towers for phases one, two and three of the Burj Residences project, as well as a six tower residential project on Dubai Marina. Construction is due to commence this month, with a contract duration of three years.
