Developer ALDAR Properties has shortlisted four dredging contractors for the US $14.7 billion (AED54 billion) Al Raha beach development in Abu Dhabi. They are: Van Oord Gulf, Dredging International, National Marine Dredging Company and Boskalis Westminster ME. “We expect to complete our final analysis in the next two weeks, leading to an award in early December,” said chairman Ahmed Ali Al Sayegh. Since the announcement of the multi billion Al Raha beach development in February of this year, Aldar has been progressing its designs and schedules to enable early completion of this massive development. Tenders for this work were received from five companies on 15th October of this year. “Preparatory reclamation works have already started,” added Emad Muqattash, ALDAR’s project director: “The removal of the existing stone jetties will finish very shortly and this will enable the appointed main reclamation contractor to start before the year end.” Meanwhile in Dubai, Van Oord has picked up a $3 billion contract to build Nakheel’s Palm Deira — the largest land reclamation project so far awarded in the emirate. The island will be 18 km long, 9 km wide and its surface will measure 4000 hectares. Building the project will involve 1 billion m3 of sand and 40 million tonnes of rock.
