EmiratesDomainRegistrar.com has launched. The site offers dirt cheap domain name registration fees, but despite its suggestive name includes no specific local content or support. The site’s domain name hosting service offers users .com prices from $7.95 for one year and web address suffixes such as .info and .biz for even less. This fee itself includes e-mail forwarding and masking, starter, ‘for sale’ and ‘parked’ web pages, total DNS control and several other features. However, although these prices compares favourably with the prices charged by global domain registration sites such as register.com, an interesting observation concerns the prices EmiratesDomainRegistrar.com charges to keep a domain name for five or even ten years. Put simply, in most cases the price a user will pay for a .com address is the same each year, whereas many competitor sites offer a five-year total fee that is noticeably less than the sum of five single-year registrations. EmiratesDomainRegistrar.com is run by an unnamed company based in Arizona, US, which in turn means that all technical and billing related telephone support is US-based. This being the case, the site's services might not appeal to less technical Middle Eastern users, who in many cases face significant telephone charges to call overseas.
