A raft of new hotel projects worth billions of dollars are set to start construction across the UAE. Operators including Abu Dhabi National Hotels, Movenpick, IFA and Hilton have all announced schemes. Abu Dhabi National Hotels has already appointed Hill International as project manager on The Gate which will be a mixed-used development located next to Zayed Sports City. The project, due for completion by mid-2008, will occupy two main development sites covering the landside and waterside. The landside site includes a 265-room five-star international hotel with function facilities, two serviced-apartment towers with 225 one, two and three bedroom apartments, an office tower with approximately 21 000m2 of office space and a 20 000m2 mall. The waterside development will include 50 chalets, a retail village, beach club and an adventure water world. ADNH chairman, His Excellency Khalifa Nasser Al Mansoori, said: “Abu Dhabi has seen tremendous growth this year, and we are extremely proud to be a part of shaping its exciting future. “This project will raise the profile of Abu Dhabi as an ideal destination for business and pleasure activities.” IFA Hotels and Movenpick have also revealed plans for their Movenpick Hotel & Residence Laguna Tower development in Dubai, on which construction is due to begin soon. The 40-storey tower will comprise private residences as well as 120 hotel rooms. The Hilton Group has drawn up plans to open five new developments in the Arabian Peninsula — the super-luxurious 50-suite Qasr Al Sharq in Jeddah; the region’s first Conrad in Dubai; the Hilton Doha; a second property in Ras Al Khaimah on the beachfront; and the Hilton Jumeirah Beach Club. Further hotel developments are planned in the Lebanese capital, Beirut; Amman in Jordan; and Cairo and Sharm El Sheikh in Egypt.
