EMC recently took to the road with its partners on a backup, recovery and archiving roadshow. The event took in Dubai, Kuwait and Riyadh, Saudi Arabia between the 13th and 15th of November. The roadshow was put together to promote EMC's new 'making storage simple' initiative, designed with SMBs and SMEs in mind, as EMC's portfolio changes to reflect their needs more. “Previously, companies used to hear about business continuity and disaster recovery and even before exploring it, they started to worry about the cost and the investment they needed to make. We are trying to simplify the approach and make it more understandable. This is in line with EMC’s broadened portfolio which is moving towards the SMB and SME sectors, especially with the new software acquisitions EMC has made with Legato and others,” said Qais Gharaibeh, district partner sales manager, EMC Middle East. Gharaibeh estimates that around 75-80 customers and potential customers attended each show, alongside in-country channel partners, such as Emirates Computers in the UAE. Also attending all three events was MDS Systems Integration, the distributor of Legato products. The roadshow explained a roadmap for companies to follow to successfully implement a backup, archiving and recovery system. EMC also released a new software bundle of an e-mail, database and disc expander at the event. “A lot of customers said they realise that EMC has a clear roadmap, and we are already in talks with some companies for our partners to implement the systems. One of the ways EMC has simplified its approach is by including customised implementation services in the packages, which is a different approach to that of most of the industry,” concluded Gharaibeh.
