Motorola has named Jose R. Figueroa as corporate VP and regional manager for its Motorola Networks division in Europe, the Middle East and Africa (EMEA). Margaret Rice-Jones has also stepped up to become general manager of the vendor’s core networks business, a newly created business unit within Motorola Networks. The core networks business, which covers communications technologies for both wireline and wireless operators, will play a pivotal role in pursuing Motorola’s vision of seamless mobility. According to the vendor, both Figueroa and Rice-Jones have recently spent time in the Middle East and North Africa, interacting with partners and customers in the region. Figueroa will now focus on driving sales and business strategies across the EMEA region in addition to his duties as corporate VP of Motorola Networks in the Latin America and Caribbean region. “I am delighted to be taking on this expanded role — it makes perfect sense to centralise customer relationships and work more closely across the two regions on account strategy,” said Figueroa. “It’s an exciting time in terms of market consolidation as well as convergence in the industry and today’s announcement will strengthen Motorola’s ability to greater support its customers and to deliver on the company vision of ‘seamless mobility’.” Following her new appointment, Rice-Jones will be responsible for profit and loss performance of the core networks business and also oversee strategic planning, development engineering, handling third party relationships, product management and customer support. Rice-Jones previously served as corporate VP and regional manager of Motorola Networks in EMEA, securing some major contract wins including a push-to-talk over cellular deployment with Mobily in Saudi Arabia.
