The United Arab Emirates’ eCompany has announced it has become the first organisation in the Middle East to earn SunTone certification from Sun Microsystems. “Customers today are far more critical and demanding that their service provider meet the rigorous standards set by the industry,” says Abdulla Hashim, senior manager at eCompany. “This certification is a testimony to the world class e-hosting and co-location services offered by eCompany in the region today, and it is a matter of great pride that eCompany is the first service provider in the Middle East to achieve this certification.” eCompany, Etisalat’s internet and information and communication technology (ICT) division, has been working on achieving the certification for almost two years, according to Nasser Salim, general manager for the converged network at Etisalat. He says, “The SunTone certification signifies our ability to meet the highest quality standards in the industry in addition to instilling process excellence in our IT service management strategy.” The SunTone certification programme is an attempt to bring together several different sets of IT best practice standards, such as CoBIT and ISO 20000, under one open-source package. Sun does not charge organisations to obtain the material, which is available at the SunTone website, but there is a charge if a company decides to apply for certification. Chris Cornelius, managing director for Sun Middle East and North Africa, says, “In achieving SunTone certification, eCompany is joining an elite group of managed hosting providers such as BellSouth, Belgacom and AT&T. Becoming the first in the region to achieve this benchmark may enhance customer confidence that eCompany is delivering highly reliable, scalable and secure services to organisations in the region.”
