Executives from Dubai Shopping Festival (DSF) have announced that the organisation will utilise Tejari, the Middle East’s online marketplace, to centralise and streamline its purchasing processes. As part of an agreement signed during Gitex, DSF and Dubai Summer Surprises (DSS) will widen their base of suppliers. “Now in our eleventh successful year, it is the right time for the Dubai Shopping Festival and Dubai Summer Surprises to migrate toward online procurement. In terms of transparency and market reach, the benefits that we will receive from Tejari’s free and fair trading platform are immense,” says Marwan Al Sarkal, DSF director of finance and administration. DSF and DSS are among the first Tejari buyers to opt for the new Tejari Expert services, a range of strategic procurement offerings that will include redesigning the group’s procurement processes to align with its strategic objectives, assessing DSF’s current vendors, and benchmarking their performance. “It’s one of DSF and DSS’ main objectives to adopt an e-business strategy as per the vision of the Dubai Government and with the help of Tejari, we can achieve our goal. The signing of the agreement during GITEX highlights our focus on using technology for increased business benefit,” continues Al Sarkal. In addition to reaching new suppliers for its two major events, DSF executives anticipate that Tejari membership will enable them to consolidate purchasing for greater bulk buying. This leverage, combined with reduced paperwork and administration, will result in lowered procurement-related costs for the department. “In order to enhance the success and longevity of events like DSF and DSS, the organisers not only have to create new sources of value and entertainment, they also need to reduce the costs of managing these initiatives. Streamlining the procurement and identifying new sources of goods and services are two key ways in which Tejari can help DSF and DSS remain the leading retail and tourism ventures in the region,” says Omar Hijazi, CEO of Tejari.
