UAE-based satellite communications services provider Samacom has signed a deal with Globecomm Systems, the global provider of end-to-end satellite-based solutions. Under the arrangement the two will jointly launch a new Middle East service operation, scheduled to start in the fourth quarter of 2005. The operation’s hub will be located at Samacom’s teleport facility in Dubai, and will facilitate the launch of VSAT (Very Small Aperture Terminal) services, utilising iDirect technology to support voice, internet and data solutions throughout the Middle East region. VSAT is a satellite communications system that serves home and business users. Samacom, a member of Dubai Holding, has a previous relationship with Globecomm with the two working for several years on the planning and development of Samacom’s teleport facilities. Director of Samacom, Yatinder Mahajan, believes demand from the Middle East is growing rapidly. “Samacom’s agreement with Globecomm expands our capacity to support this demand not only in this region, but in the rest of the world as well.”
