Fresh from recently giving broadband internet subscribers more speed for less cost, Etisalat’s internet division, eCompany, has ramped up the size of its web hosting storage capacities for no extra charge. Applicable to both new and existing customers, the move means users who pay eCompany to ‘host’ their web sites on its servers can now include more content in the form of text, pictures and other files. Starting at the value end of eCompany’s web hosting range, its ‘MyWeb’ package – costing 25 AED per month – has been upgraded from 10MB to 40MB. The next package up, MySite, has been increased from 50MB to 150MB, while the Starter package now hits 250MB (from 100MB). At the higher, more business aimed end of the scale, eCompany’s Economy package now hits 1GB (from 500MB), while its Advanced package’s 1.5GB has been doubled, as has its biggest Ultra package (from 2GB to 4GB). “The eCompany web hosting service now provides customers with a feature rich and highly competitive price structure aimed at providing a superior web hosting option for customers comparable to any other offering in the market,” said eCompany’s senior manager, Abdulla Hashim. Considering Etisalat only revamped its web site hosting packages back in July – reducing prices, unlimiting data traffic and adding e-mail accounts – and also recently boosted the speed and reduced the prices of its broadband internet packages, it would appear the company is now going all out to build customer goodwill in the run-up to the forthcoming launch of the UAE’s second telecoms operator in the second quarter of next year. Also due to be partly Government-owned, this organisation – nominally named WAM- will compete for the same phone and internet customers; as such, competition for their cash seems certain to hot up.
