Successful promotions and innovative stand positioning at Gitex Shopper 2005 boosted Jacky’s revenues 70% year-on-year, leaving the power retailer’s management cock-a-hoop about the sales spike recorded. Ashish Panjabi, chief operating officer at Jacky’s, explained the strategy behind the success: “This year at Shopper we positioned our stands in different places, which I feel led to greater visibility and access. Regardless of the hall and entrance through which visitors entered, Jacky’s was immediately visible.” It was not just its Gitex Shopper performance that had the team at Jacky’s jumping for joy. Away from the Airport Expo retail event, Jacky’s also experienced an 80% year-on-year boost in sales across its mall-based and high street retail outlets. A range of special promotions ensured high foot traffic across Jacky’s complete range of outlets. “Apart from the 1,001 mobile phones that we gave away, recipients were happy to redeem the 20% discount voucher for accessories such as memory cards and flash drives, saving considerable amounts,” added Panjabi. “For example, for a 1GB memory card, a shopper could save about Dhs80, thus giving him or her an incentive to buy a 1GB card for the price of a 512MB card,” he added. In keeping with Jacky’s new retail look, the retailer’s Shopper stands were designed to enhance the consumer experience. The stands were designed with Jacky’s major vendor partners in mind, ensuring that key brands across a range of product sectors including notebooks, digital cameras, mobile phones, PDAs, MP3 players, software and flat-panel TVs were highly visible. Jacky’s also attributed the increased sales to a change in advertising focus by vendors, making customers aware of the quality of specific brands before they enter a store.
