Marriott International is to expand its hotel portfolio in Dubai with two new properties opening in 2008 at RiverWalk in the Dubai Internet City free zone. The 300-room Courtyard by Marriott RiverWalk, Dubai Internet City and 120-unit Marriott Executive Apartments RiverWalk, Dubai Internet City will be operated under management agreements with Capital Partners FZ LLC, the US private equity firm that developed RiverWalk. When opened, the properties will be the second moderately priced Courtyard and third Marriott Executive Apartments for extended stay travellers in Dubai. “Dubai is a dynamic destination. There is plenty of room for a broad range of hotel brands,” Ed Fuller, president and managing director for international lodging at Marriott, told Hotelier Middle East. “Our Courtyard brand appeals to the upper moderate tier business and leisure traveller and our Marriott Executive Apartments brand is targeted for our the up-scale extended stay traveller. Both of these brands have performed extremely well since we introduced them in Dubai.” The hotels’ location will comprise a single site within Dubai’s RiverWalk, a US $1 billion, mixed use development in Dubai Internet City. It has direct access from the Sheikh Zayed Road, and borders Dubai Media City and Dubai Knowledge Village, both of which will provide a strong base of business travellers. “The addition of the Courtyard by Marriott, RiverWalk, within the Dubai Internet Free Zone, ensures that we can bring our ‘quality tier’ product into an area of the city that we know can support it,” Jeff Strachan, area director sales and marketing, Middle East and Africa, Marriott International, told Hotelier. “Many of the companies located within the Internet, Media and Knowledge cities are familiar with our Courtyard brand and will appreciate this hotel which is: ‘Designed by business travellers for business travellers.’ “The adjacent Marriott Executive Apartments, RiverWalk, will operate within the extended stay segment and provide much needed accommodation for the many project workers and short term to mid term residents of the area.” The Marriott International lodging portfolio in Dubai currently is represented by the 351-room JW Marriott Dubai, the 281-room Renaissance Dubai, the 172-unit Marriott Executive Apartments Dubai, the 165-room Courtyard by Marriott Green Community, the 43-unit Marriott Executive Apartments Green Community. “Each of our hotels are located in areas of Dubai where there is significant demand for the brand,” said Strachan. “We are already successfully combining sales and marketing resources to effectively market our existing JW Marriott, Renaissance, Courtyard by Marriott and Marriott Executive Apartments brands. The new hotels will slot into and benefit from the existing sales and reservation resources that we currently operate.”
