Contractor Arabtec plans to acquire Jebel Ali-based ready-mix company Austrian Arabian. According to sources close to the deal, the acquisition is being finalised this week. The ready-mix firm currently operates a fleet of 50 mixers and six concrete pumps in addition to two batching plants, which together have the capacity to produce around 4000m3 of concrete per day. The deal means that Arabtec will have direct control over the supply of ready-mix concrete to its major projects in the area, which include the Burj Dubai and the Pearl hotel project in Dubai Media City. Earlier this month the contractor also picked up a US $87 million contract to build the 47-storey Sky Gardens development in Dubai International
