Eight contractors have been short-listed for the dredging package on the US $1 billion Wave in Oman. Construction Week can reveal that the firms chasing the contract include: Carillion Alawi/Great Lakes; Hani Archirodon; Boskalis Westminster; Jan De Nul; Six Construct-GETCO; Van Oord Gulf FZE; Dredging International/QDC and STFA Marine Construction. The dredging work will be the first of several construction packages to be let on the project in coming weeks. Acting CEO Wael Al Lawati said: “We have started the site stripping and earthworks and there is around 7km of natural beach in addition to the reclaimed land. “We have put out pre-qualification notices for the golf course construction and the various residential packages.” Six contractors have also been short-listed for the golf course construction package. “We are about to complete the golf course evaluation and we will be announcing the appointment of an architect soon, who is a very well known international signature designer,” said Al Lawati. Reclamation and infrastructure works are expected to start in early 2006. The Wave development is a joint venture between Oman’s Waterfront Investments, the National Investment Funds Company and UAE developer MAF Investments. It will be a fully master-planned community overlooking the Gulf of Oman, near Seeb International Airport. The project will cover around 2.5 million m2 and will include an 18-hole golf course, a 300 berth marina and four luxury hotels in addition to villas
