Printronix, the integrated supply-chain printing solutions manufacturer, is showcasing its Magna series printer family at this year’s show. The new technology has been specifically designed to meet the needs of the Middle Eastern market, offering high-speed, bilingual line matrix printing in the Arabic and Farsi alphabets. “These printers are able to print Arabic and English text side by side, which is of great benefit to many businesses in this region that want to appeal to both customer bases,” explains Claus Hinge, Printronix vice president for sales & marketing in Europe, the Middle East and Africa. “Previously, the Arabic fonts took up space on the computer, but now they are available in the printer itself. The universal Arabisation layer has programmable features and multiple Arabic fonts,” he adds. The appearance of Printronix at Gitex Dubai is particularly timely, as the advantages of RFID technology are only now beginning to be recognised by businesses in the region. The company is coming to the end of a number of pilot tests of its technology at several enterprises throughout the Middle East and hopes that raising awareness about its RFID printers at the show will help to speed the uptake of the technology in the future. “Our RFID technology is designed to give users the benefits of Printronix’s industry-leading throughput for barcode and label printing, and we are the first printer manufacturer to provide the market with a UHF, RFID printer for EPC applications,” Hinge says. The Printronix 5r multi-technology thermal printing platform builds on the technology innovation of the company’s existing T5000e and SL5000e series. The new architecture is based on a 32-bit PowerPC processor and comes standard with 32MB DRAM and 8MB flash. “We expect to see great demand for our 5r series from customers in the Europe, Middle East and Africa (EMEA) region,” says Hossam Sallam, area sales manager, Middle East & Africa, Printronix. “Our pilots have seen excellent success and we are certain that the technology will give customers a significant competitive edge,” he adds. The 5r series comes in a choice of four-, six- and eight-inch wide models with a standard choice of 203 or 300dpi resolution. They print at speeds of up to 10 inches per second and come with a series of high-performance drivers.
