Rounding off an extremely successful week at the show, during which several important deals have been inked, Alcatel is proud to announce the signing of a significant deal with the UAE’s Ministry of Education. The deal, which was signed on Monday, will see Alcatel providing training for the twelve colleges of the Higher Colleges of Technology (HCT), in the UAE. Founded in1988, HCT specialises in subjects such as business, education, technology, communications, engineering, health services and IT. Offering over 75 programmes to more than 14,000 Emirati men and women, HCT’s courses are designed in conjunction with business and industry leaders to ensure that the skills learned by students are relevant to the modern workplace. In line with this, the training that will be delivered by Alcatel will enable college students to design and develop their own XML applications through the company’s own application programming interface (API). In the coming weeks, Alcatel will be installing an IP communication server and providing training to HCT teachers, who will in turn train students studying IT in XML application development. “It is simply a matter of imagination,” says Pierre-Alain Cadillon, Alcatel’s country manager for the UAE, Qatar, Kuwait and Oman. “The students will gain valuable practical experience in application development and will be able to create any kind of XML application they wish. The most useful of the students’ creations could even be certified and marketed if they are good enough.” The students will gain a high level of technical knowledge and practical experience through the training, and will earn valuable industry-certification on the completion of the course. “This will be very beneficial to students in their future careers,” says Cadillon. “By gaining an Alcatel certificate for corporate business the students will be able to impress prospective employees with demonstrable skills when they graduate.”
