Lebanese software design and development firm Sets Solutions is predicting a boom in the demand for biometric devices as large organisations look to improve staff productivity and security. Sets, which distributes fingerprint, hand reader and 3D facial recognition technology, says businesses of any size can deploy access as well as time and attendance solutions. “The market for biometrics has been on an upward curve in recent years and I predict that will continue as companies look to improve staff productivity, as well as ensuring that only authorised people have access to sensitive areas of their business,” says Nabil Rahal, business development manager, regional division at Sets Solutions. The star of this year’s Gitex for Sets is the recently launched 3D facial recognition scanner made by A4 Vision. The device, which weighs just 800g, maps the contours of a person’s face and can provide verification and identification in less than one second. Sets says that the imaging technology contained within the product makes it ideal for airports, banks and hospitals which have secure areas within their grounds that are only accessible to authorised personnel. Rahal said that its fingerprint and hand readers, which are a cheaper alternative to facial recognition hardware, can be deployed by any sized company. “The problem with older card based time management systems is that they are open to misuse and fraud, as there is no way to verify that the employee is physically present when the card is used. The beauty of this technology is that it requires the presence of the individual for recognition to take place,” adds Rahal.
