25 years and counting for Aptec team

There’s a real party vibe on Aptec’s stand in hall four as the regional IT distribution powerhouse celebrates 25 years of business.

There’s a real party vibe on Aptec’s stand in hall four as the regional IT distribution powerhouse celebrates 25 years of business. For chief exec and president Ali Baghdadi, the 25 years leading up to the silver anniversary have flown by, but he remains wholly committed to continue leading the development of the IT sector and routes-to-market across the Middle East & Africa (MEA). “It doesn’t feel like 25 years,” says Baghdadi. “They have flown by and we remain committed to the vision that Aptec has had from the very beginning: to continue innovating and serving the MEA region in the best way possible to help it develop even further.” Aptec is promising a range of new value-added services and offerings for the Middle East market during the next 12 months. Baghdadi claims they have the potential to redefine the IT distribution business, not just on a regional level but on a global scale. Still spending an hour in the gym every day, Baghdadi reckons he’s got more energy than ever and is up for the challenge of taking Aptec’s business model to the next level. “The technology sector is maturing fast and levels of professionalism are increasing across the region. However, there is still some way to go and new opportunities for growth are being created every day,” Baghdadi says. “This region now has the investment, innovation, talent and ideas to achieve something special. The one area where there is still room for improvement is in the delivery of services to end users.” Gitex has certainly changed a great deal since Aptec’s first appearance 24 years ago. With around 40 exhibitors in one hall back then, Aptec’s main concern was how it would ship the kit it had brought over for the event back to the UK. “We were worried about it,” says Baghdadi. “In the end we managed to sell it all to a hobbyist who turned up in a truck on the last day and took all the products displayed on the stand and went. It was a great way for us to end the event.”
