The Dubai Informatics Computer Centre, the IT education arm of 32Group, will be hosting the first hacker awareness conference in the Middle East. The conference, titled H@cker Halted 2005 Dubai, will include a series of IT security programmes, seminars and demonstrations by renowned speakers, who will bring high-tech, cutting edge knowledge to the Middle East’s IT industry. “I promise that this will be a landmark event in IT and cyber security for the region,” says Amir Pishyar, vice president of 32Group and director of Informatics Dubai. “IT security has always been an issue in every part of the world but now, as the Middle East IT industry becomes more sophisticated, this will become more of a concern for the region. This conference is intended to address this issue and we are bringing some very interesting people to this event. We are also hoping that this initiative will urge the authorities to move towards implementing a proper cyber law for the region. It has become urgent to issue legislation which classifies high technology crimes and stipulates penalties for them.” The Hacker Halted conferences have so far been held in Malaysia, Taiwan and Mexico. Guest speakers this year will include people from the FBI, US Army Military Intelligence Corps., the EC-Council and other high profile organisations. Highlights will be Network Security, Ethical Hacking, Forensics and Cyber Law. “The chance to hold H@cker Halted in the Middle East is something that we have been planning for a long time,” says Sanjay Bavisi, vice president of the EC-Council. “Dubai is a great city and is growing very rapidly. There is a need to protect its infrastructure and the multitude of companies located there. We are sure that this conference will aid Dubai and the GCC countries with the knowledge and the IT solutions to move forward with confidence.” The conference will be held at the Godolphin Ballroom, Emirates Towers Hotel, Dubai from November 14-15, 2005.
