Advanced content filtering software vendor Websense has announced that its Websense Remote Filtering technology will shortly be available to corporate laptop users outside of their organisation's network. The solution, which will be incorporated into the newest versions of Websense web filtering and security software, is expected to be available in the region from October. With business travel on the increase, there is a much larger demand for employees to work remotely. Broadband penetration in locations such as hotels, coffee shops and airports also means that it is increasingly necessary for notebook users to protect their machines from malicious network attacks. The company claims that its Remote Filtering ensures secure employee internet use anytime, anywhere, forming a critical component of any company's endpoint security and protection strategy. For unprotected mobile users outside of the corporate network, the internet has become a dangerous source to accidentally infect a laptop with malicious code. The company says its security labs discover tens of thousands of websites each month that are designed for 'drive-by' downloads of keyloggers, Trojan horses and spyware, while simply browsing websites that exploit browser vulnerabilities without the users knowledge. “Websense Remote Filtering ensures that laptop users have the same policies and level of protection outside the corporate network as inside the network,” says Michele Shannon, senior director of product management at Websense. “The solution is integrated and entirely managed by the exact policies and same user interface as all other Websense software. There is no need to deploy a different product or manage multiple policy settings, management consoles and reporting tools.” The software allows businesses to apply corporate internet usage policies to remote users and travellers, protecting them from external security threats. Websense Remote Filtering provides protection for remote users from accessing phishing sites, those that contain spyware, or sites corrupted with malicious code, while reducing the cost, downtime, and inconvenience associated with compromised computers in the field. Speaking at Gitex, Geoff Haggart, Vice President, EMEA at Websense outlined the company's plans for the show. “The growth in this region is huge. We are paying particular interest to Gitex this year because you can only take your business so far without having a presence on the ground, and I think by this time next year we should be here. It's better like that when you are working through the channel. We have approximately 12 channel partners pro actively selling our products in the region. We have met up with a lot of our partners in the region and we want to increase our awareness of how the region works,” he says.
