Visitors to the APC stand at this year’s Gitex are being offered a virtual tour of the company’s latest high-end offering. Dubbed “SITBI” (See It To Believe It) people wanting to learn about the company’s InfraStruXure data centre are given a PDA and a pair of headphones enabling them to take a guided tour of the stand, without the need of a company representative. Numbered spots on the floor of the stand prompt visitors to touch the PDA screen, where they are given a recorded description of an aspect of the InfraStruXure solution. Video footage is also displayed on the user’s PDA highlight specific examples of the equipment. “Rather than having a boring sales demonstration, we have a PDA-based system which gives you a full description of our InfraStruXure architecture,” says Philip Hughes, general manager, Middle East, Pakistan and Turkey, APC. “It brings the technology to life and gives visitors clear and detailed information about what we are offering.” Once the virtual tour is finished, APC staff are on hand to answer further questions. “It means that we can save our voices,” quipped Hughes. “But it also means that people who are serious about learning about our product will take the tour.” Targeting the enterprise space, APC is touting InfraStruXure as a solution for companies who have problems with data management centres. APC claims the solution meets the needs of infrastructure power, rack, and cooling design challenges. “As the region continues to grow economically and companies expand, there will be a greater need for professional, enhanced data management solutions,” says Hughes. APC is also highlighting the latest advancements to its web-based BuildOut Tool. The BuildOut Tool allows channel partners to quickly and accurately produce their own customised data centre configurations using InfraStruXure’s modular components. Along with its high-end power solutions, APC is also displaying its latest array of consumer products on its stand. These range from USB mobile chargers, surge protectors and power adapters through to re-chargers and travel power cases.
