For the first time this year, players in the after-market parts and supplies space, seem to be strongly advocating the use of remanufactured products as a cost-effective alternative to OEM products. Dubai-based company, Supplies Depot FZE, which is exhibiting for the first time at Gitex, belongs to this league. “The idea of using after-market parts and supplies is still fairly young in the Middle East although it is very popular in Europe and North America,” says Mahdi Panahi, CEO of Supplies Depot, which is a distribution house for remanufactured office machinery products. “Most end users here tend to use OEM products although there are several players like ourselves in the market. However, the one difference between us and most other players in this space is that we are completely dedicated to the after-market sector,” he points out. Highlights of the Supplies Depot stand are the Universal chip, which is used in multiple cartridges, and the latest inkjet refilling machinery. “The Middle East and North Africa region is very important for us because this is the only market in which we are selling,” says Panahi. “However, since the after-market parts industry is very young in this region, our main reason for participating in this show this year is to educate visitors about this and also to appoint distributors in countries in the region, where we don’t yet have a presence,” he adds. “I am confident that Gitex will help us to spread this message very effectively to visitors. When end users see that the remanufactured product is both cheaper as well as of a quality that is equivalent to that of the original OEM product, they will surely see the benefit of choosing this,” concludes Panahi.
