3M looks to fine-tune its solutions

The event is especially important for 3M this year with the realignment of its Middle East telecommunications business with its African unit. Previously Africa was aligned with Latin America, but 3M felt the customer profile of the continent was more in tune with its Middle East neighbours.

3M Gulf has appeared at Gitex at least five times before, according to Shome Bag of the diversified technology company’s marketing services. He believes the show has been very successful, and continues to be, with the company able to get to know the region. “Gitex is important for us because we can learn how to fine tune our products. For example, the market in Yemen is underdeveloped, whereas in Kuwait it is highly advanced.” Gitex, he says, is where 3M can learn the differences in the markets and tailor its solutions accordingly. 3M Gulf has two telecommunications businesses, its access business with operators such as Etisalat and Saudi Telecom, and its enterprise business. “At Gitex we’re only focussing on the enterprise side,” says Bag. The event is especially important for 3M this year with the realignment of its Middle East telecommunications business with its African unit. Previously Africa was aligned with Latin America, but 3M felt the customer profile of the continent was more in tune with its Middle East neighbours. To guide this new division, Frede Pedersen has been appointed as 3M Telecommunication’s MEA regional managing director. Pedersen will head a presentation by 3M Gulf launching its LC Hotmelt Connector. The connectors help make installing fibre optic networks a faster, more efficient process, for data and telecommunications professionals. The LC Hotmelt launch will be held at 11.15am on September 27 in the Abu Dhabi ‘A’ Room, and will also feature a presentation by 3M Telecommunication’s European technical manager, Rosemary McGlashon.
