NewSat has recently expanded its operations in Dubai and is using Gitex as a forum to introduce a number of new products to its wide range of leading edge solutions. The publicly-listed Australian IT and communications company, Multiemedia, and its satellite communications division, NewSat, are again present at Gitex. As the event is one of the most important in the IT industry calendar, the company believes the exhibition is the ideal venue for NewSat, its customers and partners, to meet first hand to develop new business opportunities. Recently, NewSat announced the acquisition of the NewSkies Networks’ Mediaports in Australia. This purchase comes with a very substantial backlog of contracted secure revenue over the next three years, and will extend the company’s reach into the oil, gas, mining, broadcasting and government sectors. The new entity, known as NSN Mediaports, will provide services in the Middle East, Africa and Europe through the Dubai-based offices of NewSat. This announcement follows NewSat’s recent launch of the iDirect platform to compliment its ViaSat-based business in the region. “Satellite technology is the future of general communications, entertainment, education and health services, particularly in regional and remote parts of the world where traditional cable copper fibre networks are not appropriate or available,” says Adrian Ballintine, founder and CEO of Multiemedia. Ballintine describes the investment in the new media port facilities as good news for the ICT industry and a significant investment that reflects the growing nature of the company. “Over the next 12 months, we’ll be seeking to continue to grow our business and increase our presence in Dubai,” he says. As a result of the deal, NewSat will now be able to provide satellite coverage to 75% of the world’s population, including Europe, the Middle East, Africa and Asia. This will make NewSat one of the largest and most modern media port operators and satellite service providers, and according to the company, this puts NewSat a position to provide an unparalleled level of services. Paul Seaton, NewSat’s general manger in the MEA region, believes that Dubai is the ideal hub from which to service this region and it is for this reason that the company is pulling out all the stops for this year’s Gitex. A number of the company’s services, including mobile broadband solutions, video conferencing, and high-speed internet connections, are being demonstrated to visitors. “Gitex is also an important opportunity to reaffirm our support for the development of the Dubai and the Middle East region’s IT development,” Seaton says. NewSat is one of the fastest growing satellite communications providers, and the region is key to the company’s growth. In addition to hosting and distributing internet services, NewSat is able to provide network solutions.
