Sumitomo has won a US $100 million contract to supply around 100 000 tonnes of steel pipe to a liquefied natural gas (LNG) project in Qatar. The package was awarded by United Arab Emirates’ National Petroleum Construction Co. and major French engineering firm Technip. It is the third-largest pipe order to have been picked up by the Japanese construction giant. The welded large-diameter steel pipe will be used to build two 100 km pipelines, running between a new LNG plant to be built by the Qatar National Petroleum Co. and Exxon Mobil Corp in Ras Laffan and a gas field off the coast.
