LG Electronics has a massive range of products on display this year, with the hardware giant demonstrating everything from mobile phones and cameras through notebooks and DVD writers right up to a 71 inch plasma display panel. “Gitex is the biggest IT exhibition in the Middle East. The basic and most important reason for LG taking part in Gitex is to improve brand visibility and promote certain new products,” says K H Kim, president Middle East & Africa operations for LG Electronics. “Our star products are the 71 inch plasma display panel with a gold plated rim, the 55 inch LCD TV, the DMB notebook, and our new notebook with Bluetooth. The LG LW 70 Xpress notebook series, the Slimline desktop series, Super Multi DVD, DVD Writers, CD writers, CD ROM, 3G phones, and camera phones, are also being promoted at this year’s Gitex,” he adds. Notebooks is one area that is becoming increasingly important to LG in the region. “LG’s notebook business is growing; LG notebooks have been well received in the market, and we sold notebooks worth US$25 million in the region last year,” says Kim. Visitors to Gitex today can see the DMB notebook, which LG is billing as the world’s first terrestrial digital multimedia broadcast receiving (DMB) notebook computer. The notebook PC features functions like watching and recording terrestrial broadcasts, channel registration, broadcasting-reception sense indication, picture capture and channel scanning. The notebook also does an intelligent update where it automatically upgrades software to improve user convenience. LG is also exhibiting its Express series of notebooks, based on the latest Centrino mobile technology from Intel. The company claims its five Express model notebooks are packed with entertainment and business features ranging from enhanced graphics to better responsiveness and support for greater security options — without compromising important capabilities such as integrated wireless LAN access and great battery life. It is equipped with the Mobile Intel 915 chipset. On the consumer side, the company believes it has some very exciting and innovative products on display this week, including some additions to its mobile phone line-up. The MP3 music phone, KP4400, for instance, has a multi-tasking feature; this allows users to receive or make phone calls and play games while listening to music. “Our main purpose is to showcase LG’s technical strengths and position LG as the leader in the IT, home appliance and communications segments. Over 100,000 visitors will be in the UAE to attend Gitex, and this is therefore the perfect time to position the brand,” says Kim. “LG has been participating in Gitex for six years, and this will be our seventh year. And definitely our participation has shown results in the form of our regional overall sales,” he adds.
