Digital device vendor Sanyo is embracing the convergence of traditional IT and consumer electronics at this week’s Gitex trade show and Gitex Shopper. As such, the firm is exhibiting a broad range of its products, including its digital movie cameras, a home projector with Twin IRIS functions, 3G TV mobile phones, and wireless home theatre systems. In terms of new products, Sanyo is showcasing two new projector models today, including the PLV 80 — a HD LCD projector offering highest resolution of 1366 x 768 in 16: 9 format. Also on stand is the Sanyo HD 200, which the vendor claims is the industry’s first 2k pixel LCD Panel projector. “Sanyo is also demonstrating its wireless video transmission module for projectors that takes away the burden of laborious and cumbersome truncking and cabling requirements by the end user,” says KS Vasudevan, general manager of Sanyo Gulf. Away from projectors, the Sanyo team is walking delegates through its other offerings, which include MP3 players and IC recorders, and an automobile navigation system. In addition, the team is heralding its Xacti C5 offering, which it claims is the world’s thinnest and lightest digital camcorder. The unit is also the world’s first five megapixel camera that can capture still and video images simultaneously, according to Sanyo. The camera has a flip-out, rotating 2-inch LCD screen and packs a macro mode that allows users to get as close as 2cm from their subject. In order to gain greater market share for the Xacti C5 and its other products, Sanyo has been working hard on its channel strategy, which will also be explained to visitors to the vendors stand this week. In particular, Sanyo will be explaining how it has worked with UAE distribution partner Al Futtaim to evolve a channel strategy that reflects the changing IT and consumer electronics market dynamic. “Sanyo is one of the oldest brands in the region and has deep roots in the channel thanks to Al Futtaim Electronics’ excellent reach in the UAE trade segment,” Vasudevan says. “Although the industry is undergoing rapid transformation, Al Futtaim is further strengthening its presence for Sanyo in various market segments in the UAE, including power retailers, the electronics channel, systems integrators and the IT channel,” he adds.
