Dubai Internet City (DIC) is running its ‘Community Zone’ for the fifth consecutive year at Gitex this week. Over 36 members of DIC are present in the area, as part of the information technology free zone’s Partner Support programme. This programme pledges to provide members of the DIC with a platform to enable them to gain better visibility at Gitex than they would achieve if they were to exhibit by themselves. In addition to showcasing its partners’ wares this week, DIC is also attempting to attract more companies from around the world that are looking to tap into the emerging markets of the Middle East and Africa. Specifically, it is looking for investments from companies in the fields of software development, business services, web based and e-commerce, consultancy and sales and marketing. To attract would-be tenants, DIC offers a range of benefits to its members because, as a free zone, it has a different set of compliance laws and regulations to the rest of Dubai. “DIC offers a business ecosystem that nurtures and supports the development of IT companies. The DIC offers 100% exemption from taxes, 100% ownership, 100% repatriation of capital and profits, no currency restrictions, easy registration and licensing, a sound framework of cyber regulations and protection of intellectual property,” says Baiju Francis from the corporate communications department of DIC. “The DIC provides intelligent office space amidst an exquisitely landscaped environment. It also provides a one-stop-shop of business-enabling and support services like immigration, business incorporation, facilitation of government-related permits, facility management, hospitality and event services,” she adds. The DIC Community Zone, which is located between halls seven and eight of the Dubai World Trade Centre, promises to be a main attraction for the full week of the show as it has a cutting edge design with an emphasis on visitor interaction through the provision of ample space for events and presentations.
